“I hate my life” – sad to say that many of us internally scream these words at least once a day, especially when we feel down and hopeless. However, life is not that bad once you know you to do when you hate your life.
Keep in mind that if you do not treasure your life, who else wants to care about it?
What & How Is “I hate my life” Feeling?
How are you right now?
You might be feeling so bad that everything and everyone in your life is against you, making you tired and stressed. You do want to talk, share, or company with anyone. Neither you desire to do things you used to do. Shopping or eating can not raise your mood.
Even worse, you find you and yourself sitting alone in a dark space, dying a little bit inside. Hating your life is like a widespread poison that ruins your spirit, turns off the lights in your soul, and damages all relationships you are having. From “I hate my life”, you turn into “I hate my job”, “I hate people”, and “I hate myself …”
What to Do When You Hate Your Life?
My dear, we do not know each other, but I used to share the same feeling. Hence, just so you know, I do care for you.
Here come 9 lessons I learn from my true experiences to get over the hating my life situations. Hope they are helpful to you.
Face it – why you hate your life?
Love it or hate it, learn to face and deal with your true feelings rather than hiding or ignoring them. Once you figure out the causes, you find the solutions more easily.
Thus, step back and reflect on your life recently. Why do you feel it sucks so much?
# You have too high expectations yet the facts are not that good.
Do not get me wrong. By no means, I discourage you from expecting good results. In contrast, I know many friends who have high expectations for almost everything they get involved in. Such expectations keep them moving forward and never settling for easy-to-get stuff.
However, instead of keeping your expectations in life, in work, and in relationships through the roof, set reasonable goals and learn to accept failures. The important point is what you learn from experiences and be more successful next time.
# You feel unfair and jealous when comparing your life to others
“Look at Kim Kardashian! She is beautiful, famous, and rich – almost everything that I desire for myself. Oh gosh, I hate my life.”
I used to think like this while checking Kim’s Twitter. “She has new bags. Me – nothing. I hate my life.” “She has just received a diamond ring from Kanye West. Me? – Just some chocolates for my birthday. I hate my life.”
Now that I stop comparing my life to hers, I feel much happier and love my life better. Instead of the diamond ring, I have love and care from my partner, which is priceless!
I realize that each of us has our own life and even Kim has her rough times that she might not want to show off to the world. So, it becomes less desirable to me.
Think like that and you will find your life less miserable.
# You are betrayed and lose trust in life
It hurts the most when you are cheated by someone you love and rely on so much. Then, it turns out that nothing in life is worth your trust.
But one or two broken relationships do not mean the doomsday. For sure, there are many people who truly care for you and help you move on. Even when you have no one else by your side this time, you have you and me – my dear.
# “I am a loser. I hate myself” think you
You have just failed an exam or you have been fired from your current position and your boss said that you are inexperienced or incompetent. Sadly, it is true that you have weaknesses.
At that time, hating yourself might end up hating your life and more.
Then, you should know that we are all imperfect. And the bright side of failures is that you at least realize what you need to improve and learn lessons.
Learn how to let go of resentment for yourself
Once you find the cause, you need to find a cure for it.
Most of the time, you have hatred feelings toward yourself and others. Thus, the very next thing is to let go of resentment.
It is not easy at all, but why don’t you give the following checklist a try?
- Find and evaluate the source of anger
- Have thoughtful conversations
- Take up a hobby
- Digest books on forgiveness and letting go
- Free your mind – free your life!
Write down 10 things that make you smile
So, you have listed what causes you to hate your life. Now, can you give me 10 things that make you smile just by thinking about them?
Do not consider too much, just take notes of 10 things that come across your mind for the time being. Let me share my list first.
- Looking at my kids – just look!
- Receiving a smile from others, even strangers on the streets
- Having someone say “Let me help” or “I do care for you”
- Share my thoughts in Gud2know – although I do not know whether someone reads them
- Completing a hard task at work
- Getting sincere compliments, especially when it comes to my competence
- Reading a meaningful quote or book
- Listening to a happy melody
- Tasting a delicious food or drink
- Cooking something for my family
Get active with happy things as above
There is still stuff that makes you happy. That you have a list, you just to stand up and find such happiness triggers.
For example, go to people you love and they also love you. Moreover, keep your mind busy with your hobbies and try things that you have never tried before.
Quit from negative triggers in life, at school, at work, etc.
Besides thinking positively and completing what you like to do, you need to stay away from negative sources that cause you to hate your life.
Say, forget about the bastards who lie and cheat behind your back. Or, if it is the work that you no longer have a passion for, take a short break or even find a new job.
Moreover, read tips to fill up your passion when you are depressed.
Confess your feelings to someone you trust
Most importantly, do not leave you with yourself when you are extremely hating your life. While you are too much serious about dark sides of the problems, others might figure out the hidden brightnesses and give you advice.
Even when they have nothing much to consult you, having a listening ear will relieve your stress significantly.
If you are too self-esteem to show your vulnerable parts with your friends, you can anonymously share it with strangers in forums or groups, even under this blog.
Try new things, go to new places, and meet new people
As you find your life too boring and even people around you make you more stressed out. Then, escape to a new place – I mean traveling somewhere.
Every journey teaches you a lot about your life and others’ lives. You can also meet someone who does understand you and helps you to heal your broken heart.
Sound unrealistic, but life is full of unexpected opportunities. Who knows?
Prepare a plan for the future to move forward
Have you ever thought of writing a life plan?
Who do you want to become in the next five years or for the next five months?
If not, you should sit down and put it down to words. Plans keep your mind positively. Today is a bad day, tomorrow might also be a bad day, but someday in the future will be your heyday – as long as you keep trying for it.
A plan will help:
- Shed the lights on the darkness because you know what are your most valued priorities
- Support a balance between your life and work
- Empower your mind and address your current realities
- Promote you to be better for a bright future
Keep asking what to do when you hate your life
Even when you still can’t find solutions after reading my blog post. Do not stop searching for what to do when you hate your life. As I said, other people can see the brightness of the problems better than you. Just spend some time looking into their opinion. Filter out useful information for your case.
Now, Do You Love Your Life A Little Bit?
By anyway, I still hope that you now know what to do when you hate your life and think more positively.
