Baseball caps are no longer a uniform of the sports teams. Now they become a popular accessory for outdoor activities. Even a graceful girl loves baseball caps to make her more stylish. But, not all of them know how to wash a baseball cap in the washing machine.
Unfortunately, these caps easily get stains of sweat, oils, dirt, and dust. If you fail to clean baseball caps properly, it might misshapen and fade in the natural color.
How to Wash a Baseball Cap in The Washing Machine?
Overall, a washing machine is not healthy for the caps due to its powerful capacity. Hence, I only recommend this machine when you have no time for hand-washing treatment.
Keep in mind three criteria:
- Never use hot water; otherwise, it can discolor the cap. Warm and cold water are fine
- Do not wash the cap with bleachable clothing or stuff
- Only wash with a front-loading washing machine rather than a top loader
- Turn on the gentle cycle so that your beautiful baseball cap stays in shape
Now, follow the steps.
Read the label first
Whenever you have an idea to wash a baseball cap in the washing machine, make sure you have checked the fiber content and the cleaning instructions of the manufacturer, if there is any.
Some materials like straw, wool or cotton are not recommended to clean in the go-around washing machine. If it is the synthetic fabric or cotton blend, then the washer is acceptable.
Make your move
Step 1: Pre-treat the tough stains with a non-bleach remover and leave it there for 15 to 30 minutes.
Step 2: Place the hat in a sealed pillowcase or laundry bag to reduce potential damages due to the motions of the washing machine.
Step 3: Set the water temperature to cold or cool.
Step 4: Leave the washer soak for a while to soften all dirtiness and stain. Remember to set a gentle cycle.
Step 5: Take the cap out for air dry once the wash cycle process has done. Do not expose the baseball cap to direct sunlight or the fabric can be faded. Moreover, it is better to place the cap onto a plastic form so that it does not change its shape.
Hand-wash Is The Best Way to Clean A Baseball Cap
In case you are not in a hurry, washing your baseball cap by hand rather than in the washing machine is always the top choice. Not only can you get rid of all stains completely, but you can also lengthen the cap’s lifespan.
It takes more time and more careful treatment, of course.

Never Clean a Baseball Cap in Dishwasher!
Besides looking around for how to wash a baseball cap in the washing machine, people always search for the cleaning tutorial with dishwasher.
But, do not do that.
The hat ends up shrink and discolor significantly. I have tried myself and have to throw an expensive baseball cap away. The dishwasher detergent is often bleach. Not to mention, it causes extreme heat that damage your cap.
So be short, either hand-washing or washing machine is fine, but leave the dishwasher alone.
